With over 40 years of experience, AA Asphalting has become the largest Asphalt and Concrete Restoration Company in the Pacific Northwest. Our customers include Public Utilities, General Contractors, Government Agencies, Private Businesses and individual Homeowners. We have multiple locations including Sumner, Tacoma, North Seattle, South Seattle, SeaTac, Maltby, and Issaquah.

As we continue to grow, we are searching for motivated and dedicated individuals to join our team! We are currently seeking a full-time Crew Lead for our Maltby yard. This position will work year-round.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Assigns shovels, rake, broom, toolbox and all the tools in the flatbed. Uses tools to perform laboring duties.  Ensures all tools are returned and accounted for before leaving jobsite.
  • Keeps the truck clean inside and out.
  • Completes Driver's checklist by start time.
  • Assumes responsibility for crew if foreman is not available.
  • Makes sure all truck and equipment slips are turned in and broken tools are taken care of.
  • Sets up signs, cones, etc. on the work site, or instructs crew on how to complete set up.
  • Instructs crew in personal safety and safety of equipment. Follows all safety rules and regulations and practices preventive safety measures.
  • Performs and trains crew on all aspects of patching. Explains and demonstrates how to cut and prep patch to a minimum of two inches or to match existing depth; on how to tack edges, dump asphalt, rake, sweep, roll, inspect and repeat if necessary, inspect and seal, load equipment, and pick up cones and signs in reverse.  Performs laborer duties on a regular basis. 
  • Trains employees to properly load and unload equipment and to check fluid levels.
  • Ensures truck is fueled every night.
  • Solves problems as they arise and calls foreman for assistance if unable to resolve the problem.
  • Follows the guidelines established in the Buddy Program to ensure new employees are assigned to a crew, introduced to management, and attend an orientation to complete all necessary new hire paperwork.
  • Allows only properly trained employees to operate equipment when necessary.
  • Ensures compliance of all safety rules and regulations and practices preventive safety measures.

QUALIFICATIONS 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • In-depth knowledge of construction procedures, equipment and safety guidelines.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
  • Ability to communicate and report effectively.
  • Aptitude in math.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or G.E.D; 1+ year experience working on an asphalt and/or concrete crew; or equivalent education and experience. 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Class A CDL with a good driving record; must be insurable by the Company's vehicle insurance.   State of Washington Flagging and Traffic Control Card within six months of employment; CPR/First Aid within one year of employment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel or talk or hear.  The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift up to 100 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving traffic, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.  The noise level in this environment is usually very loud.
